This was a BIG publicity shoot with No Doubt for Interscope Records. We did the shoot at Smash Box Studios in Santa Monica and we went to the Santa Monica Pier for exterior shots. These were for their new CD Return to Saturn when Gwen had pink hair!
This was one of those shoots that just worked on every level. We had so much fun and got so much shoot. In the studio we did 5 setup with solos and groups. Then we drove to the Santa Monica Pier and shot all over the pier. So much fun and nobody bothered us. It was super casual and the band just rolled with me and my ideas. I remember how nice of a day it was and how the pier was pretty empty for a September day.
We shot on steps, benches and in the arcade. Adrian walked around in grandma pajamas! We laughed, but it worked. I used my Fuji G645’s for ALL the outdoor shots. I loved those cameras! They were point & shoot cameras, but with 645 format. Miss them big time, but I do not miss film.
