Way back in the day… the 70’s to be exact. There was a music revolution called Jazz Fusion. If I have to explain it… it’s simple jazz chops with rock sound. Great jazz musicians plugging in and playing loud. Some of favorite musicians played Jazz Fusion… Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Jean Luc-Ponty, Chick Corea, Marcus Miller, Al Di Meola, Lenny White, Joe Zawinul and many more. The bands were insane… Return to Forever, Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Crusaders and more. The music was exciting, full of energy, extremely unique and just the best.
I was lucky enough to see many of these musicians and bands play live. My first concert was Return to Forever in 1976 when their GREAT album Romantic Warrior was out. AND by the way it’s the greatest Jazz Fusion album ever!!! I still crank it up to this day. It never gets old. They were The Beatles of Jazz Fusion! The Fab Four or the Fusion Four!
I wish there was more Jazz Fusion today! Would love to see today’s jazz stars crank it up and make some noise. I just know I miss the sound, the chops and the bands! I’m gonna stop writing now and play some Return to Forever loud! See ya later.
