Last Sunday was the Grammy Awards.  I will admit I didn’t watch much.  What I did see made me sad and embarrassed.  I’m gonna apologize now for what I’m about to say, but I just need to say it.  I know I’m gonna sound like a cranky old man.  Maybe I am, but this is how I feel.

First, music today lacks what is most important to any art… SOUL!!!  Most artist today don’t make art, they make content.  Music is content and that is how the business treats it.  What happened Sunday night is forgettable.  By next year, by next month and maybe by tomorrow everyone will forget what they saw and heard.

Second, the Grammy’s have turned into an attention getting fashion show that has NO soul.  All I saw was people looking for attention and “likes”!  The music was not the most important thing for the night.  You can tell by the way the “musicians” & “artist” acted through out the night.  All I saw was people saying… “Look at me!” and trying too hard!

Third, I have shot too many great artists to count.  Lots of great talented people with soul.  I meet lots of new artists with a lot of soul.  I know they’re out there.  I know they exist.  I’m just not sure the industry cares about these artist or can make money off them.

Fourth, again I’m old I don’t know a lot about Billie Eilish.  Not my kind of music, but she did a simple song and stood out more than ALL the big performances.  I don’t remember the song, but I do remember the crazy nails.  Let’s see where she will be in 5-10 years.  Let’s see if we will remember her music in 5-10 years.  Time will only tell.

Last,  I’m no expert.  I admit that, but I do know a thing or two about music & art.  We live in a new world where music & art are now just content.  We live in a world where everything is disposable.  We live in a world where there is too much of everything.  The one thing we seem to have lost is our SOUL in this new world.  It’s the one thing I still have and will never lose.  To all the new artist out there following their passion and heart… don’t forget your soul, don’t lose your soul  and never stop working on your soul.  Thank you!
