Way back on July 18th, 1991, the very first Lollap Way back on July 18th, 1991, the very first Lollapalooza kicked off in Chandler, Arizona β€” and I was lucky enough to be there. What do I remember most? It was hot as hell, there was chaos behind the scenes, and a lot still needed figuring out. The music and performances were solid for a first run, but things definitely leveled up as the tour found its rhythm. By the time it hit Irvine, California just a few days later, everything was firing on all cylinders. I was also at the final show of that first tour in Seattle, and I brought along my friends Eddie Vedder and his girlfriend Beth. From the first show to the last, it truly felt like the beginning of something iconic. Big thanks to Jane’s Addiction for the access β€” but the real love goes to Ted Gardner.
