This is a little PSA to ALL my concert photographers… If you’re shooting live music and NOT wearing earplugs… you’re a fucking idiot. Yeah, I said it. I never wore them—and I’m paying for it. Big time. I’ve been dealing with Tinnitus for over 25 years now, and trust me… it’s NOT fun. Constant ringing, no silence, no escape. It wears on you.
So please… learn from my mistake. Wear earplugs. Every show. No exceptions. I don’t care if it’s a tiny club or a massive stadium. Loud is loud. And standing in the pit, right next to the speakers? That’s damage happening in real time. The more shows you shoot, the worse it gets. Please protect yourself.
Nobody told me. I wish they had. I wish I knew then what I know now. So I’m telling you… Take care of your hearing like you take care of your gear. Keep a few pairs of earplugs in your camera bag and USE THEM. Every single time. You’ll thank me years from now.
